Hello,

My SRP-2100 has broke down. Started switching off/on repeatedly and smelling

That's the 3rd Topfield in a row, which started malfunctioning...

I love the Topfield receivers, and the add on programs, but these receivers have a very short life

So now - what should I buy as replacement ? My first thought is a new SRP-2100, but new receivers have been made since, and the SRP-2100 seems hard to find, so probably not so current anymore ?

Are any of the new receivers better ?

I need HD, HDMI and digital sound output. Record 2 HD and play another. Timeshift without first pressing record - all this I love in the TMS.

Should I consider one of the other models or a new TMS ?
I saw in another thread that the power supply was, but is no more available... Could it be the power supply ?

if you don't need pip (picture in picture) you can try a 2401, but the 2100 is still available.

Seems like the well-known problem with the power supply - there are some capacitors, which degrade relatively fast, causing erratic supply voltages.

In the early phase of this (restarts, harddisc errors,...) it is sufficient to replace the capacitors to give the Toppy a new life - but "smelling" is a bad sign, perhaps you waited too long and some more parts are damaged now...

EDIT: By the way... this is not a special Topfield issue - power supplys are one of the main reasons of failure of consumer electronics of nearly all trademarks

You are very right - Harddisk problems and restarts for some months before total breakdown...

Does anyone have a replacement power supply ?

Sorry, but I have only some links to German threads.

According to this thread it is not sold any more and the only chance is to repair the power supply, i.e. exchanging the capacitors.

Maybe Mucki has one spare power supply (according to this post).
But I think there is not much chance that he would sell it.

i don't think that it is only the power supply in your case because it do nothing at all if i understand your right.

but maybe you are lucky and you are right
