Harddisk Verify error

Hello,
I hope it's ok when I write in english, you are welcome to answer in english or german :-)
My good old SRP-2100 goes through checking hdd when I power it on, and then ends with verify error and yes/no to loose all data.
Is there anything I can do ? Any app I can load through usb to better repair the filesystem ?
Btw. Topfield-europe.com forum is gone ?? Looks like it's here you picked up :-)
Kind regards
Dennis

Welcome on board, Dennis. I can think of several ways but they all need some work and there’s no guarantee whatsoever.
- There’s a tool called jfs fsck which you need to run on the console while connected via telnet. But this only works if your Toppy sees a working disk. That means that you need to install a temporary empty disk, let it format by the Toppy and then attach the bad disk via the USB connector and perform the file system check.
- Use some PC Linux and see if you can mount and access the files directly.
- There’s some Windows recovery tool that is able to interpret the jfs disk format of the Toppy. I currently can’t remember its name but it is mentioned somewhere in the forum. I also think that you need to buy a license to recover files but at least you can try it to see if it can detect any files on the disk.
Method 1 will modify the disk and therefore you should start with methods 2 or 3 but this depends on how much time you’re willing to spend.
Re. Topfield Europe: yes, Korea first has closed the office in Cologne and a bit later they also have terminated the contract with the hosting provider. Luckily we were able to get a copy and setup this private server.

Thank you Firebird.
Can't I do option 1 with a temporary USB key storage as the working disk ? Otherwise it seems all options involves opening the receiver and dismounting the disk...
Other problem: I don't have a holder for the disk, to give it a usb connection, but I could buy one...
I do have a Linux PC...
Old forum: I actually had a user (think it was also Ponty) on the old europe forum, but I guess you didn't copy the users ?

It needs to be a working SATA disk or the Toppy won't activate the USB ports.
I actually had a user
We've transfered all users except the ones that had 0 posts and weren't online for at least year.

I have a USB key in it and it can read files from it (restore settings) - must mean USB port is activated ?
I saw in the restore settings menu that my usb was called sdb
Ahhh, I found me (ha ha) - my username was dmelhede :-)

That's interesting.

But the telnet server needs to be launched from a TAP and that is only possible from the internal disk.

Ok. I have discussed it with my wife and we are willing to loose the files form the disk, so in that case I guess I should just say yes to the formatting question, right ?

Yes. And then run the HDDInfo TAP and check (or let us check) the SMART parameters to see if there's an obvious hardware problem with the disk or the SATA cable.

Here are the HDD Info results
TapToDate doesn't seem to connect to the server to download database - isn't that supported anymore ? Or I have a problem with my network setup...

The good news is that TAPtoDate is working fine. Make sure that you have the latest setup file and if there are still connection problems, try to enter the Google DNS servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) in your Toppie's network setup.
The bad news is that your disk is bad. Reallocated sectors, unrecoverable sectors and some other parameters clearly show that you need to replace it.

Damn - is there a list of recommended replacements ?
I'd like a silent one, but I guess the fan is making most noise !?

I'm sorry but I'm not up to date about the current harddisk market. Maybe someone else could provide a tipp on a suitable replacement?

Am leisesten wäre eine SSD. Die von
Samsung kann ich empfehlen.

If you are looking for a silent drive, maybe try a 2.5 inch model?

I got a ST2000DM008 and I should have done that AGES ago - it's completely silent now :-)
I'm a bit sorry I didn't know this because the sound was tremendously annoying for both my wife and me, but I wrongly assumed that it was the fan ...
Now all the reprogramming and TAP's.
Are the TAP versions from TapToDate all the newest ones, or should I get some by other way ?
My favourites installed again:
- TapToDate
- JagsEPG *** THANK YOU JAG *** We really enjoy the search words for programming recordings, reason to NOT get another receiver
- FastSkip
- QuickPlay
- RebuildNav
- TMSRemote
Gosh it was EASY. TapToDate installed via WebInterface and then TapToDate installed the rest - Thank you all for the programming work :-)
I have forgotten where to set the default tuner for recordings ? Trying out the WebControl TAP - very nice, but it programmed with tuner 4.

jag is not here since years. he has tranfered jags epg from the 5x00 models to the SRPs (because I had contact via mail to him) as one of the first taps on the the SRP series without having one.
that was reallly great but 13 years ago I think...in that years we have done something better I think
