Thanks; I will, but I have a big deadline on Monday, so will do it after that. Do you just want me to use the SmartEPG Config backup, and send the result of that?

The easiest thing is to use „Create backup“ (33) and send the resulting tgz. Then I’ll have your complete SmartEPG installation.

Scrolling through infobox

#23

Beitrag von keith_leitch » Mo 12. Dez 2016, 23:28

Turns out I have been making daily backups. Here is the latest.

Thanks for looking at the recurring problem I have scrolling through the SE infobox. As I described, it stops working periodically; I have only been able to fix it by rolling back to version 6, then forward again to 7.0, then forward to the current version. After a few weeks, it stops working again.

I should also mention that this happens on both my 2460 and my 7160. When it has happened, I have started with no taps running except SmartEPG; this does not help.

Because my German is so poor, I cannot tell whether the file has uploaded successfully. Please tell me. The Fenster Schlieben button translates to "Window Wipers," so maybe I am clearing my upload each time I try.

Do we need to start a new topic?

The maximum size of a zip that the forum accepts is less than 1MB. I don’t think that it will let you upload the tgz directly. So either upload it anywhere and post the download link, or send to me via email (if it is smaller than 10MB).

Keith, I've done some testing with your settings (and my EPG data to make things a bit easier) but couldn’t reproduce your problem. But it might be that I didn’t understand the issue correctly. Could you please explain, from which state I should start to test, what keys I should press to reproduce it?

Thanks for looking at this. I have the following problem when the settings item 18 is set to either "SE" or "SE Pilot." I also have menu option 32.28 & 29 set to the up and down arrow keys.

When watching Live TV, it is possible to press the Info button for some information about the station, current show, next show, etc. I call this the "Infobox."

NORMAL FUNCTION: With the infobox displayed, I can press the up and down arrows to reveal shows that will air later in the day. I can also press the Record key to set a reservation for one of those shows.

PROBLEM: After some time passes (usually weeks) the up and down arrows have no effect when the Infobox is on the screen. I have set these to different keys in options 32.28 & 29, but those new keys have no effect, either.

I have tried restoring SE settings from backup to fix this. It does not (however, it may be that I did not notice the problem until my automatic backups deleted that file.) The only way I have found to fix it is to roll back to version 6.x, then forward to version 7.0, then forward again to the current version. Rolling back to 7.0 and forward again does not fix it. Rolling back to 6.x and forward to 7.2 does not fix it. Only 6.x-->7.0-->7.2.

This problem occurs on two different PVRs: an Australian TRF-2460, and an Australian TRF-7160. It occurs whether or not any other TAPs are running.

Is this the problem you were unable to duplicate?

Then this was what I was trying to duplicate. Did you try to boot your Toppy TAP-less and only launch SE? Does it behave differently if you control your Toppy via TMSRemote?

I don’t think that it has something to do with this issue, but I’ve noticed in SE’s SystemReport log that TimeShiftSaver seems to be running twice.

Yes, many times on both machines.

This I have not tried. I will do so now.

No, no difference using TMSRemote.

Thanks. I thought I had corrected that, but will have another look.

Here‘s a test version, which creates some additional log entries in SmartEPG_TMS.log. This should show me if the up and down keys are processed correctly or not. Could you please stop your current SmartEPG, launch this one, open the infobox and try to scroll around. Then please send me the SmartEPG_TMS.log.

Here it is. I have started with a fresh log to keep it brief.

I activated the infobox, then pressed "Down" three times and then "up" three times directly on my RCU.

I then went to a remote machine and tried the same from the TMSRemote module built into TMSClient/Server.

Thanks. The output is as it should be. Tomorrow I’ll check what possibly could go wrong in the InfoBox display function.

I appreciate your attention to this. I have been asking others their advice for a long time, and get the impression that nobody believes it is happening, so having you look into it means a lot.

However, I do not wish to consume much of your valuable time. You have done so much for Topfield users that this is a trivial matter by comparison. If you are curious, please look into it. If that is next week or next year or even never, I will still feel lucky to have SmartEPG to use.

In the meantime: do you need me to keep it in the state that it is, or can I apply my difficult 'rollback' fix? The next time I fix it, I intend to keep an external backup of settings, and apply it on my other machine, to see if that is the issue. (An external backup of settings isn't a bad idea, anyway).

I’ve just realised that the whole EPGDB subdirectory is missing from your backup. Did you remove it to reduce the size of the backup or did the backup process go wrong for whatever reason?

No, I didn't remove anything. Let me have a look.

It is there. I am sending you another backup, as well as a ZIP of that folder.
