What is a FBC tuner

Old Topfield SRP-2100TMS user, just today heard about VU+ from Horst, thanks :-)

So took a look at their homepage to see the product range.

"One FBC tuner supports 8 demodulators. Two slots make it 16 demodulators totally. "

What are these FBC tuners, what can they do ?

The usual tuner can receive one frequency and demodulate this one. The Full Band Capture tuner digitize the whole frequency range and therefore are not limited to a single frequency. This means that with one FBC tuner you can receive all channels from 8 different frequencies at the same time. Of course, the frequencies have to be on the same polarization and band (horizontal/vertical polarization, high/low band). I hope this explains it a little bit.

Thanks Firebird,

I assume I can still only simultaneously record 2 of those and watch one ? I watch Canal Digitaal, so at least the channel I watch needs to be decrypted and the recorded ones be able to be decrypted later.

on the vu+ when you use a softcam it can decrypt more than one at the same time :) (if it is possible to use...I don't know if it works with canal digtial...)

Just for fun, I'm currently recording 9 different channels simultaneously. As Twilight said, there is a good chance that all channels are decoded on-the-fly if you can use a softCAM.

Are there apps for automatically nightly decrypt, like in the Topfield ?

That automatic decoding is built into the system (at least into VTi) but I can’t comment on it because I never had to use it.

Do I need two FBC modules?

Is the VU+ DUO 4K SE the best option ?

I would say that if you could live with one sat cable on your Toppy, one FBC tuner might be enough. If you needed both cables because the channels you’re mainly watching are on different bands or polarizations, then you also need more than one tuner. This is a limitation of the LNB.

I already have 2 cables for my TMS, but I think one FBC can already use 2 transponders simultaneously ? Or do I need 2 for that.

You can attach both cables (LNB1 IN and LNB2 IN) to one FBC Tuner.
I recommend that you do some reading over there ;)

So I would only need 2 FBC when I have more than 2 cables coming inside ? (My head has 4 but I only cabled 2)

Correct. 1 tuner has 2 inputs.
