Top set doesn't find TF7700 HD PVR

Hi

I have just gotten my TF7700 HD PVR back today from Topfield, where it have undergone some "surgery" due to shutting down completely while in stand by.

As far as I know at this point, Topfield have changed the front since it has the plastic on the display, the inside I don't know.
I connect my Topfield to my computer with a sandberg COM to USB converter and it worked perfectly before I send it back to be fixed but now it doesn't work.

When I ask Top set to "read settings from receiver" nothing happens after the reboot, it's like the receiver is unresponsive.
I have moved the USB and the computer respond perfectly.
I have updated the Sandberg drivers and the USB driver from Top set.

It's just like the communication stops at the COM connector on the Topfield.

Are there way to get the connection back? I have looked through the receiver settings but nothing points to the COM port, so I can't Activate/deactivate it?

It would be really great if I have to send it back again :(

TIA

Kim

my first try would be:

to delete the usb serial converter in the system and install it again.
then check the com port of the converter and set the right com port in topset.
the cable between the adapter and the 7700 is ok? and it is a null modem cable? (zero modem cable)

the usb driver from topset/topfield has nothing to do with the 7700.
it is for the usb connection between the pc an the 5x00 and 6000 pvr´s.

maybe it could be that the cable from the com port of the 7700 ist not connect to the motherboard.
maybe the person who repaired you 7700 has forgotten to connect it after the repair...

Hi Kim,

there is no need to install the Topfield USB driver on your PC. This driver is only necessary for TF receivers which are USB salves, like the TF5000 or TF6000.
Also there are no settings on your TF7700 with which you can activate or deactivate the COM port. The RS232 interface on your toppy is always active ;)

But despite that your PC should get a connection to your TF7700 via RS232(COM). Does the COM port assigned to your USB converter equal to the COM Port which you have selected in the TopSet options? Please also make sure the COM port assigned is lower than COM10. Due to a bug TopSet only support COM ports up to COM9.

Please also let us know which system you have installed on your PC.

Cheers
Aldarin

Thanks for the answers guys.

No wonder I can't connect to the receiver, the COM is not connected to the mainboard :D
I didn't think of checking the internal connectors yesterday when I mounted the harddrive :patsch:

Am I right to assume that the connector for the COM on the mainboard, is the connector named JP12 in front of the Scart switch in this picture?

BTW

I running Windows Vista 32 with latest updates and Top Set always found the latest assigned COM port, even when the COM port was altered from 3 to 9 or back, Top Set found it, so I knew Top Set was never the problem.
