I am sorry that this is a little wrong place for this post.
In Finland our newest FW has bad bugs. Our Finnish importer Kjaerulff1 is stupid and does share this buggy FW.
Now they have plans to start Over The Air (OTA) updates for boxes. Actually they are already doing that in one cable operator's network.
I have read from forums that box keeps saying "there is an update..." until you update the box. So there is no possibility to deny the update. User have to do it. But many of us does not want to update to the buggy FW.
Do you know anything about OTAs? Could it be possible to make a patch that prevents OTA updates? Or maybe it would be enough to be able to change the FW version and maybe also date. If chaged version and/or date would match the OTA FW, maybe the update would not be done then.
Anyone, please, could you try to find solution for this? Please.

Maybe this function could be incorporated in VegaPack (if there is any chance that it helps with the problem). And: Yes, we need an "Applications" forum for this kind of question.

Flying cables?
[/quote]
Yes, haven't you seen those?
The only drawback is that you have to leave window open for night so that piece of cable with updated FW can fly in.

No it doesn't. I have a real T-model and terrestrial waves go through our walls. I have tried to add some pieces of lead on walls, but that doesn't help.
And if I really manage to stop waves, I still have an old cable end on our hallway under the casing. I fear that our cable operator can try to use that to spread cable-FW also to our box.
Because of this, I believe software solution is the only option.

I think that the easiest way is to patch the firmware version number so that the Toppy thinks that he has a newer version installed.

Would you like to do this kind of version changer so that it could be tested in Finland (in that one cable operator that is sending "OTA" update already)?
We would appreciate that!

It’s not as easy as I have hoped. The numbers which are used for the receiver status display are hard coded. Changing these numbers wouldn’t change anything for the OTA update process. So one needs to find the location where the OTA is checking the version.

I think I've found the version check. I would prefer to hand patch a single firmware. This ensures that I don't waste hours on something which doesn't work.

You seem to have account on TAPWorld and becaue of that you also have account in our Finnish forum. At least I hope it is you.
If you have such an account, could you log in to TAPWorld (upper right hand corner) and then go to this thread on our forum:
http://www.tapworld.net/forum/index.php ... 046.0.html
There is a description of our problem in English and we are trying to find out testers also there.
You should see our forum in English (sorry, no German interface available).
THANKS!

Was macht dieser Patch genau?
