Oh no! All your reported issues were valuable and helped to find and fix some bugs in MC. So that benefits everyone! (Umm, maybe except for the Sleep-key thing )

White key is working OK, inside and outside MC.

Maybe you could leave the "Sleep" key for MC but only make it active if you want to debug.

I look forward to the next release.

The stream needs to be MPEG2 Transport Stream - however that option is called in FFMPEG. And, of course, this method won't work with HD material.

Thanks, Firebird. Are you suggesting that using "-target pal-dvd" should result in a format that works with Moviecutter? If so, I am not having any success. The file plays from an external source (though not from the internal drive), but unlike native files that I copy to the same source, these transcoded files do not activate the MC controls.

Here are the command lines I am using:

ffmpeg -i %1 -target pal-dvd -vf "yadif" -async 1 -pass 1 -y NUL
ffmpeg -i %1 -target pal-dvd -vf "yadif" -async 1 -pass 2 -y %2


This may have to do with the yadif filter, or with syncing the audio, but I have found both to be necessary to produce a watchable DVD. I suppose that I could apply them afterward; I might try that and report the results.

Just out of interest, I use the SLEEP key every single night for its original purpose, which is having a video put me to sleep. This hasn't affected my use of MovieCutter, as I only launch it when I am actively using it, but I thought you might want to know.

DVDs use so called Program Streams, which means that the same SD MPEG data is packed differently compared to Transport Stream packets.

Are you tring to use files other than the original Topfield recordings with MC?

There is a NAV & inf building program for the PC: Toppy FileMaker by Jaffaman.

ProjectX will create a proper .ts that will work.

Hallo zusammen,

wie schon lange angekündigt, wird es aufgrund der neuen Funktionen nötig, das bewährte MovieCutter-OSD ein wenig zu erweitern (bzw. umzubauen).
Dies soll so behutsam wie möglich geschehen, damit keine große Umgewöhnung nötig ist.
Gleichzeitig soll es aber auch ästhetisch ansprechend sein und den Blick auf das Wesentliche lenken.

Ich habe nun drei verschiedene Gestaltungsvorschläge entworfen. (siehe Anhang)

• Welcher gefällt euch am besten? Und warum?
• Gibt es sonst noch Anregungen zur Gestaltung? (Momentan wären diese leicht zu berücksichtigen...)
• Oder fühlt sich jemand berufen, einen eigenen Gestaltungsvorschlag zu entwerfen?
  - Dann ist jetzt eure Chance!

That is too bad, but I will still try out FileMaker, as it will be useful for other reasons. Thanks for the tip. I think that Firebird's advice will probably sort my other problem, once I get a bit more time again to play with it.

Das hatte ich mir auch gedacht. Einzig die Anordnung der Legende für die Farbigen Buttons ist eine andere. Darum wäre ich auch für 1.

What's the problem with ProjectX-files?
You should be able to produce a 188-byte Transport Stream file with ProjectX.
Then rename it to *.mpg, create a Topfield inf file (either with RebuildNav or a PC tool like TFTool).
Now the Toppy should be able to playback this file. And MC should be able to cut it.

If not, in which step does the problem occur?

Also: What exactly is the problem when playing edited recordings on the PC? I would like to debug this flaw...

Well, if I edit a file using MovieCutter, then try to play it using VLC Media Player or Windows Media Player, the software reports that it is an invalid or corrupt file. I can play it using Media Player Classic, but with limited transport control.

If I try to write it to a DVD using Windows DVD Maker, the software again reports that it is corrupt. I did manage to get around this by loading certain codecs first, but this burned a DVD that I could not watch; it simply did not play anything in any player, even on the PC.

As I've mentioned, transcoding it first using FFMPEG gets around these problems. I have so far transcoded it directly from the MovieCutter output to a "target pal-dvd" format--apparently, a Program Stream--but will experiment with using transport streams when my job slows down again.

I tested a file, which I have edited with MC, on my PC today.

It played fine in Windows Media Player. It wouldn't play in VLC. It played fine in GomPlayer.

I'm guessing it's a codec problem, nothing to do with MC.

The same file, I demuxed, and used DVDAuthorGUI to create a DVD, which I burned with ImgBurn. I tried Windows DVD Maker, it failed to even create the files for a DVD, but it's not a program I've ever used, or would use.

The DVD played in Windows Media Player & GOMPlayer. it wouldn't play in Windows Media Centre. Again, I'm thinking: codec problem. Although I would have thought WMP & WMC would use the same codecs, but it' M$ after all. It also played OK in a Samsung Blu-ray player.

I don't think MC has created any file (I did try quite a few) that won't play at all, or are unable to be burned to DVD (I only tried 1 though).

ich kann eine mit deiner MC Version geschnittenen Film nicht von intern auf extern kopieren.
Es wird eine riesige Zahl an MBytes angezeigt und der Kopierfortschritt bleibt bei 0%, weil wohl auch die zu kopierenden Bytes sich nur minimalst erhöhen.

Was kann ich tun?

Hast Du es nach einem Neustart nochmals versucht? Was sagen die Eigenschaften wenn Du mit dem Cursor auf die Datei gehst?

Eine (schreibgeschützte!) Dateisystemüberprüfung durchführen. Das Ergebnis wäre relevant.
Es ist davon ausuzgehen, dass diese Aufnahme plus eine Reihe weiterer Dateien bei einem der nächsten Neustarts (spätestens beim nächsten Absturz) verschwinden wird.

Übrigens: Ich experimentiere derzeit mit einer Methode, diese Datei zu retten. Würde dich aber etwas Zeit und Mühe kosten. Falls du interessiert bist, schreib mir ne PN.

nein, auch nach Neustart keine Veränderung.
