I realised that Firebird, but wait he/she had another idea:

Eventually I think maybe it (SE) could check and see what machine it was installed on, and automatically hide options that aren't relevant
He/she was referring to the .lng file and making .ini changes through the menu page/s I guess.

I for one am more than happy with the team's (the 5) efforts at providing such a useful tool for my machine/s.

You all deserve a great :laola: and a few :bier: .

I am an English-only user in Australia. I am so hopeless with other languages that, even with the help of babelfish.com, I have been unsuccessful in posting. This may be because I signed up incorrectly, or because I can't tell what the buttons mean; it is hard to say which.

I am hoping that someone can help to answer the following questions:

MANUAL: I have a manual in English, but it is for v4, so missing some features of v5. It is also lacking some detail.

SUBTITLES: Activating SmartEPG seems to set subtitles on by default. Is this a setting or a bug?

TIMERS: What is the difference between "everything," "series," and "series repeats on same channel"?

CHANNEL NUMBERS: How do I assign logical channel numbers to match The station IDs that the Topfield (and other devices) assign to each station? At the moment, anything related to SmartEPG is, for example, identifying Eleven as being on channel 9, because that is where it appears sequentially. However, I switch to the same station by typing "11". I would like them to match. I tried changing a setting (though I cannot recall which one) between "channel number" and "LCN," but it seemed to make no difference.

LOGOS: What format, folder and filename do I use to make channel logos in PNG or JPG appear in the lists?

RECORDING FILENAMES: I am using the Title+Date option, which is great, but it seems to insert some characters from the extended set between the title and time. I would like to get rid of these. This happens regardless of whether I set the TAP to remove non-compliant characters, such as colons and commas.

Hi Keith,
The logos in SE are in a special format and come preconfigured for the Oz services. Basically they are in two "styles" a black background or a white one. SE's menu allows you to set either one "style" or the other. Not a mixture.

The Logo installer package takes care of all the folder creation and the Logos for you. :hello:

This should reassure you that youir questions are being answered.

Hi Keith,
keith_leitch hat geschrieben:MANUAL: I have a manual in English, but it is for v4, so missing some features of v5. It is also lacking some detail.

From a user?s point of view, there are no big changes between the latest V4 and the current V5. While we know that not everything is covered, please tell us what you?re missing so that we can check if it is already on our TODO list.
SUBTITLES: Activating SmartEPG seems to set subtitles on by default. Is this a setting or a bug?
I?ve never heard about that. Did you check that both ?1st subtitle language? and ?Hard of hearing? are set to off?
TIMERS: What is the difference between "everything," "series," and "series repeats on same channel"?
There was a nice explanation in the AUS forum. Mike, you didn?t save these posts? :)
CHANNEL NUMBERS: How do I assign logical channel numbers to match The station IDs that the Topfield (and other devices) assign to each station? At the moment, anything related to SmartEPG is, for example, identifying Eleven as being on channel 9, because that is where it appears sequentially. I?m not sure if I understand you correctly. If you set the Look&Feel menu item 3 (Channel sorting) to ?LCN?, SE should display all channels in the same order as they appear in the Toppy?s native channel list. But as I do not have LCNs on my sat machine, it?s a bit hard to follow. Maybe you can provide a screenshot.
RECORDING FILENAMES: I am using the Title+Date option, which is great, but it seems to insert some characters from the extended set between the title and time. I would like to get rid of these. This happens regardless of whether I set the TAP to remove non-compliant characters, such as colons and commas.
Another strange behaviour, which hasn?t been mentioned in the past. Do you see these characters in the Toppy?s native timer menu? Does this happen with specific channels? Time for another screenshot? :)

Hi Firebird,

Yes I realised that it was there, but no I did not save it/them. The Oz forum has been down for at least a month and maybe? for even a couple more weeks?

If it does come back I hope that all your responses are there and I will try to do that.

Even though the forum is missing there are a few people who have been directed via posts in other forum to try SE. :hello:

I did start an FAQ of all your emails to me or responses on the Forum, but I never got round to keeping it up to date.... :patsch:

So you can expect a few further questions in the short term.

Cheers

Yes, thanks; I found your logo installer, and it is working. Some of our local Gold Coast station names are different from the standards, but I assume I can just edit them in the LIL file. I will play with this.

My mistake. The only manual I have is for version 2.6. Is there a later edition in English?

FireBird hat geschrieben:

Again, my mistake. It turns out that it is the firmware I installed at the same time that is causing this. Still, if anyone knows how to defeat it (without changing firmware again) that would be nice...

The order of the stations is the same as the native list. However, the NUMBERS are different. For example, my stations, natively, skip channel 4; SBS is logical channel 3, and Southern Cross TEN is the next one up at channel 5. In other words, there is no channel 4 in the list. I did not set them up this way; this is the default that the broadcasters transmit.

However, SmartEPG scans Southern Cross TEN as the station one up from 3, so numbers it as channel 4. This shifts all the others all the way up the list, and there are lots of other gaps making it worse.

When I switch channels in TV mode, I type, for example "11," and the infobox shows that I have switched to channel 11. However, when I set up a recording reservation, the same station shows as 10. This is a bit confusing (though moreso for my wife than for me).

FireBird hat geschrieben:

It happens on every recording, from every station. It is visible in the native timer menu, in the infobox while recording, and even across an FTP transfer (though the character set is different on the PC).

For example, my recording of Supernatural on April 29 shows up as:

"SupernaturalÂöû<2013-04-29 20-34.mpg"

(though the inserted characters are different when viewed on the Topfield).

By the way, I thought I saw a setting to take out the dashes and just use YYYYMMDDHHMM, but I cannot find it again. Does that exist?

Thanks for all the help.

Oops, you're right. Nobody has translated the 4.x manual, the English version is still for V2.6.
It turns out that it is the firmware I installed at the same time that is causing this. Still, if anyone knows how to defeat it (without changing firmware again) that would be nice...
I do not have other ideas. If deactivating both settings doesn't help, I'm afraid that you're out of luck. Unfortunately I’m not aware of the bugs of the Aussie Toppies and their work-arounds.
It happens on every recording, from every station. It is visible in the native timer menu, in the infobox while recording, and even across an FTP transfer (though the character set is different on the PC).

These characters remind me of the UTF-8 encoding. I hope I didn’t miss it: what machine and which firmware (date or, even better, a link to it) are you using?
By the way, I thought I saw a setting to take out the dashes and just use YYYYMMDDHHMM, but I cannot find it again. Does that exist?
There is no such option in the menu, but you can edit the SmartEPG_TMS.ini parameter “NameSepChar”. Check the dash with a hex editor. Maybe it is the soft hyphen (0xad) instead of the dash (0x2d)?

Hi Firbird,

Keith's machine is a 7160 and here is a link to his Oct 2011 firmware. :)

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/319 ... 00_Dev.tfd

As to the V4 Guide, I must get back to that and see if Franz is still available to do a translation. If not I might have another source for help.

I entered one myself, and set it to a dash. There was no change, so, it does not seem to explain the special characters appearing right after the filename.
